I wanted to let you chickadess into the re-design process since I realize this blog will always be a work in progress (that you my darling readers have so wonderfully followed through all these years).
So I’m unveiling the brand spankin’ new LHL logo today, and next week I’ll unveil some new social skins incorporating the elements of the new look:
I’ll give you the full scoop when the re-design is finished, but I do want to talk you through a few things I was keeping in mind while I was designing the new logo:
1) The Slash:
This will be a huuuuuuge part of the LHL re-design and has been a major player in my overall thinking about the change of direction for this blog. I’ve decided to emphasize the importance of being a “slash something” in life: a yogi slash writer, a writer slash designer, an OG slash health ninja. (And of course, to be lovely slash healthy), duh.
2) Contrasting Typefaces
Building off of this theme, I wanted to incorporate two wildly different typefaces to represent the balance and symmetry of a multi-faceted and varied life.
I wanted to give a digital fist bump to all of you that have a copy of Jay Z’s Decoded sitting right next to the Yoga Sutras on your night table makes. And for those of you that feel like memorizing Beyoncé lyrics and memorizing mantras are kind of the same thing. And for all of you trying to find some peace and introspection in the wild, concrete jungle (whichever one you happen to reside in).
3) Flag Banners:
Flags have always been a design theme I’ve gravitated to, for several reasons. I love that they allude to nautical life, and the idea of communicating through signs & visuals.
I also dig the notion of “letting your freak flag fly,” which is one of the most fundamental founding principles of Lovely Healthy: that being proud of who you are, owning it, and taking it to the next level is the only that any of us are ever gonna get anything done on this planet.
Lastly, if you know me (or have ever attended a sports game/watched the Olympics with me) you know that I get pretty emotional when it comes to camaraderie and patriotism. It’s not really the politics that gets me: it’s the idea of banding together with a group of people united under a single idea…or symbol. I often incorporate flags into my personal style (#americanflagcroptopsforthewin). I like giving a nod to the idea that flags are, when you think about it, one of the original icons.
And on another personal note, being that I’m half-Colombian, half-American (yep, there’s another slash something), I wanted to use these two flags to wink at my half-and-half upbringing.
So there you have it! A little background on the new logo…stay on the lookout for more updates (and feel free to hit me up with some feedback as I roll out more goods!)
